GainingEdge Analysis & Research (GEAR) was formed in 2018, to expand and improve upon the quality of quantitative research available to international convention destinations—the first division of its kind in the global meetings industry.
GEAR focuses on the issues of destination competitiveness, new forms of market intelligence and insights into the dynamics of the global meetings industry, and the “intellectual capital” of convention destinations around the world, with a goal of facilitating and supporting fact-based decision making and helping cities understand how well they are leveraging their influencers to secure conventions.
In 2018, GEAR began publishing the annual Destination Competitive Index, and since 2020 has published a second annual report Leveraging Intellectual Capital.
